Our helpline – a safe space

Life’s National Helpline provides non-directive counselling and support for anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy, suffering from pregnancy loss or coping after abortion. It is free and completely confidential.

Our trained counsellors won’t judge and won’t tell you what to do; we provide you with a safe space to explore your situation free from outside pressures.

Helpliner – Chrissie

I have worked on LIFE’S National Helpline for six years and it is a tremendous privilege. Being a ‘listening ear’ for women of all ages and from all walks of life is a challenging, rewarding and humbling experience. Many of the women I speak with are disclosing their innermost feelings for the first time – they feel able to do this in the safe space the Helpline provides.

Helpliner – Wendy

It wasn’t until I had experienced pregnancy loss myself that I truly recognised how hard it was to talk face-to-face with someone about how I felt. It was then that I realised the importance of our National Helpline and the anonymity it gives to the client, allowing them to talk without having to come face-to-face with anyone until they are ready.

Helpliner – Jayne

Sometimes the best help I can give is simply to be there and truly listen to my caller’s story. For some women it may be the first time they are disclosing very personal information and the first time they are being really listened to.

Helpliner – Julia

The strength and bravery women can summon up in times of adversity never ceases to amaze me. I feel the Helpline gives people hope – hope to see beyond the present darkness. It allows them to realise that they have a future and they don’t have to face it alone. Often, the chance to talk to someone who cares and is genuinely interested in them can make all the difference.
