How YOU can help Stop Abortion on Demand

As we face the biggest threat to the unborn since 1967, we need you to directly lobby your MP. By visiting in person, or by writing a letter, it is urgent your MP is asked to vote against the removal of sections 58 and 59 of the OAPA whenever legislation comes before the House.

You can make a difference by influencing how your MP will vote. Here are three ways,

  1. Visit your MP

  2. Write to your MP

  3. Email your MP

Please do tell us what they say.  This will help inform our own approach to MPs.

Please email us at lifematters@lifecharity.org.uk and tell us how it went.

As always thank you for your continuing support in our campaigns to protect the unborn and support their mothers.

By far the best way of lobbying an MP is meeting them directly

What do to:

  1. Email them asking for a meeting
  2. Follow this up with a telephone call if you haven’t heard back from them in two days
  3. When you contact the MPs local office explain that;

“you wish to speak to the MP directly about an important bill coming up in the House of Commons”

“you and a number of concerned voters in the constituency are deeply concerned about it and wish to discuss this urgently”

Read Life’s briefing

  • Read the briefing before the meeting

  • Ensure you understand the key points.
  • Do email or call us if you have any questions or would like to clarify your thoughts.
  • Then rehearse what you will say at the meeting.
  • Have confidence that having read the briefing your knowledge may well be far greater on the issue than your MP’s.
  • A good idea is to practice with someone who has no idea at all about the issue.

During the meeting – take heart!

  • MPs are usually quite friendly and approachable when speaking to voters.
  • This should put you at ease at the meeting.
  • Set out your case and try to get him/her to say how they will vote.
  • If your MP does not want to commit, don’t be too forceful.
  • Just ask that they consider carefully your points before they decide how to vote.

Contact your MP via their Constituency Office for best results

The email and postal address for your MP at their local office can be found by clicking here

Make sure you use the Constituency Office details. This will be dealt with much more swiftly than via their parliamentary details

  • It is important that MPs see that you care about this issue personally and that this is not just an organisational lobby
  • Therefore come up with your own letter using the attached brief as a guide

  • Explain as simply as possible why you care so much about this issue
  • Convey why it is important that we do not have abortion on demand
    • Read the Consequences section here and make your key points
  • Personal stories have a great impact so please do mention that in your letter
