New rating system to name and shame abortion clinics

Life welcomes the introduction of a new rating system which will name and shame the worst offenders in the abortion industry.

The Government has announced that from next month private abortion clinics will be rated from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Outstanding’.

This news comes after reports of systematic safety failings at abortion clinics across the country. These failings included 373 botched abortions in two months and 2600 serious incidents at Marie Stopes in 2015.

Life’s Director of Education, Anne Scanlan, said: “I am pleased that the scandalous health and safety failures of the abortion industry can no longer be hidden in the shadows. For too long vulnerable women have been taken advantage of by private abortion clinics which have not been held to account. The new measures introduced by the Government go some way to providing greater scrutiny and accountability of clinics that have routinely twisted and abused the laws with impunity.”
