Ella’s story

I decided to become a Peer Mentor after leaving a Life house where I was a tenant for over a year.

I felt I wanted to give something back to Life after all the help and support I had received whilst living there. My Support Worker told me about the Life Peer Mentoring scheme and I have now completed my training and received a certificate which I can add to my CV.

I am really enjoying the experience of being a Peer Mentor and love supporting other young mums who are in the same position I once was. I feel I’ve made a difference to my mentees by being a positive role model and by drawing on my own experiences of the Life house.

Living in shared accommodation can bring its own pressures and I can support them through any issues they may have. Being a young mum and moving away from home and family for the first time is scary. As a Peer Mentor I can offer a friendly ear for any tenants who may be struggling.

I would encourage tenants and ex-tenants to seriously consider taking it up too. Your support could benefit a young mum who is in the same situation you once were.

I will continue with Peer Mentoring for as long as possible. I am now the proud mother of two beautiful boys and I would not be at this place in my life had not been for Life Housing and the support from my Support Worker.
