Why Volunteering is a Must Do for Students!
It’s Student Volunteering Week, which means it’s the perfect time to talk about why getting involved in volunteering is a total win-win. Let’s break down why…
- Make a Positive Impact in Your Community
One of the best things about volunteering is the difference you can make. Whether you’re collecting for a local food bank, taking part in a conservation project, or working with a local charity, your time and effort can create real change. Knowing that your actions are making a positive impact? That’s a pretty great feeling!
- Meet New People & Expand Your Network
Volunteering isn’t just about the work – it’s also a chance to meet like-minded people who share your interests. You’ll connect with other students, professionals, and community leaders who could become lifelong friends or even mentors. Networking is key when building a career, and volunteering puts you in touch with people who can open doors for you in the future.
- Contribute to Causes You Care About
Passionate about climate change? Mental health? Reducing the abortion rate? Volunteering lets you take action on issues that matter to you. Instead of just tweeting about a cause, you can actually make a difference and be part of the solution.
- Gain Work Experience (Without the Pressure!)
Let’s be honest – getting a job with no experience is tough. Volunteering is a fantastic way to gain practical experience in different fields, whether it’s event planning, fundraising, social media, or customer service. The best part? There’s no pressure like there would be in a paid job, so you can learn at your own pace while doing something meaningful. Plus, it gives you plenty to talk about in job interviews, proving that you have valuable skills like problem-solving, communication, and adaptability.
- Develop Leadership & Teamwork Skills
Employers love candidates with leadership skills – and volunteering is a great way to develop them! Whether you’re organising an event, managing a team of volunteers, or leading a project, you’ll gain hands-on experience in leadership and teamwork. These are skills that will come in handy no matter what career path you choose.
Why Volunteer with Life?
Life’s mission is to create a world where no one faces pregnancy or pregnancy loss (including loss through abortion) alone. This means we support women and families to meet unexpected pregnancy or loss with courage and dignity.
There are so many ways students can make a real difference by volunteering with Life! Whether you want to offer emotional support, collect essential supplies, or use your skills in other ways, there’s something for everyone. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Support vulnerable women (and men) in need – Enrol in Life’s NCFE Level 2 Counselling Skills course and apply to volunteer on Life’s National Helpline, offering a listening ear to women and men who need it.
- Help mothers and babies – Organise a collection of mother and baby supplies, gather hospital bag essentials for expectant mothers, or put together postpartum care packages for new mums. Click here for a wish list of items needed most!
- Use your skills to help – Life Charity welcomes volunteers for roles in social media, admin, and more—get in touch and see how you can contribute!
No matter how you choose to get involved, your time and effort can make a huge impact.
